| Charcoal and Conte (16x20) |
| It took me years to truly realize my abilities and my true potentials as an Artist. After some college I put my art on hold and left it untouched for several years. A part of me feels that I had taken my art for granite. I have spent the last few years brushing up on my work and trying to get to where i need to be as an Artist. There were times where i truly thought I've lost my touch and almost put down my pad and paper for good. I've kept a positive outlook and kept believing in myself as an Artist and haven't looked back. I thank my family, my friends and whomever else that has believed and continues to believe in me! Their encouragement and advice has kept me moving toward my goals. I'm not at the point where I would like to be and I'm still polishing up on my work. Doors are beginning to open for me and I'm excited to see where they lead me. Don't ever deny yourself of your dreams and never give up! Listen to someone when they acknowledge your work. This will continue to help you strive and believe in your dreams. Here's a quote I read at the beginning of every piece, "To accomplish great things we must not only act but also dream, not only plan but also believe!" -Unknown-.............I recently put on a demonstration at The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. Its was the first time I have ever been giving the opportunity to do something like this. I have always wanted to show everyone how I create my style and explain the steps I take and tools I use to achieve my final pieces. A group of students submitted pictures of the campus and the President, Dr. Smith, picked one of them for me to turn into a charcoal piece. After I gave a brief background of myself and my demonstration, they unveiled it to the audience and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. It was nice to have people see how far you can take this style of art. It will be hanging in the admissions lounge from here on if anyone gets a chance to view it in person. Now I'm focusing on trying to put on more demos at other schools since I have a feel for what the atmosphere is like. I'm sure it'll have its ups and downs but I am excited to see where it leads me. |
